Biography

From 1828 un­til his death, Af­ze­li­us was par­ish priest of En­kö­ping.

He is re­mem­bered as a po­et, his­to­ri­an and my­tho­lo­gist.

Works

In addition to original poetry, Af­ze­li­us produced:

• Sven­ska folk-vi­sor från forn­ti­den, with Er­ik Gus­taf Gei­jer, a Swed­ish folk-song col­lect­ion (three volumes, Stockholm, 1814–17)
• A translation of Säm­un­der Ed­da
• A translation of Her­wa­ra-Sa­ga
• A his­to­ry of Swe­den to Charles XII (a Ger­man trans­la­tion was pub­lished in 1842)
