Biography

Allen was a teach­er, com­pos­er and mu­sic­al writ­er. He ed­it­ed and com­piled col­lect­ions of mu­sic for schools and church­es, con­tain­ing ma­ny of his own com­po­si­tions.

For some time, he ed­it­ed the New York Mu­sic­al Ga­zette, and taught mu­sic in the pub­lic schools of Cleve­land, Ohio.
