Biography

A well known mu­sic edu­cat­or, All­en was an or­gan schol­ar at Christ Col­lege, Cam­bridge.

He served as or­gan­ist at St. Asaph’s and Ely Ca­thed­ral (1898–1901) and New Col­lege, Oxford (1901–18).

He be­came con­duct­or of the Lon­don Bach Choir in 1907, and helped di­rect the Leeds Fes­tiv­al in 1913.

He be­came di­rect­or of the Royal Col­lege of Mu­sic in 1918, and was knight­ed in 1920.
