Biography

Alfred was the son of Ed­ward Gra­ham Als­ton, Queen’s Ad­vo­cate at Si­er­ra Le­one, and An­na Ca­ro­line Ab­bott, and hus­band of Aud­rey Ffolkes (mar­ried No­vem­ber 4, 1912, Lon­don, Eng­land).

He was edu­cat­ed at St. Paul’s School and Glou­ces­ter Theo­lo­gi­cal Col­lege.

He was or­dained an Ang­li­can dea­con in 1886, and priest in 1887.

He served as cur­ate of St. Mark’s, Glou­ces­ter (1886–87), and rec­tor of Fram­ing­ham Earl (1887).
