Biography

Christian was son of Chris­tian Ulrich Am­stutz and Ve­re­na Neu­en­schwan­der, and hus­band of Fan­nie Bix­el (mar­ried 1888).

He was a school teach­er, sing­ing school teach­er, organist and choir di­rec­tor. In his ear­ly years, he served as may­or of Bluff­ton, Ohio, and was a De­mo­cra­tic par­ty lead­er.

He be­longed to the First Men­non­ite Church, and for 45 years sang in the Bluff­ton com­mu­ni­ty pre­sen­ta­tion of The Mes­si­ah.
