St. Andrew of Jerusalem

Introduction

Born: 660, Da­mas­cus, Syr­ia.

Died: 732, on the is­land of Hie­ris­sus, near Mi­ty­lene.

Biography

Andrew be­came a monk at Mar Sa­ba, Is­ra­el, and served lat­er at the Holy Se­pul­cher in Je­ru­sa­lem.

Around 685, he be­came a dea­con at Ha­gia So­phia in Con­stan­ti­no­ple (now Is­tan­bul, Tür­ki­ye). In 692, he be­came Arch­bi­shop of Go­rty­na, Crete.

He al­so ran a re­fuge that took in or­phans and cared for the el­der­ly.
