Arrick grad­uat­ed from Mc­Corm­ick The­o­lo­gic­al Sem­in­ary, Chi­ca­go, Il­li­nois, and was or­dained by the Pres­by­te­ry of Mun­cie, In­di­a­na, in 1890. He pas­tored at the Pres­by­ter­i­an Church in Hart­ford Ci­ty, In­di­a­na (1890-92); Mount Ster­ling, Ken­tuc­ky (1892-98); Lou­is­ville, Ken­tuc­ky (1898-1904); Day­ton, In­di­a­na (1904-07); and Ken­dall­ville, In­di­a­na (1907).
