Died: Feb­ru­ary 29, 1844.

Biography

Son of a poor bel­lows tread­er (for or­gans), Jo­han worked as a pri­vate tu­tor to pay for his own edu­ca­tion. Sick­ness and eco­no­mic wor­ries fol­lowed him dur­ing his life.

He was a pas­tor in Norr­kö­ping, then rec­tor in Tu­na and Stav­by (near Upp­sa­la), and was lat­er ap­point­ed to a post in Sim­tu­na and Al­tuv­na, al­so near Upp­sa­la.

Åström was one of the most learn­ed rec­tors in Swe­den, and par­ti­ci­pat­ed in ev­ery im­por­tant com­mit­tee that dealt with church af­fairs at the time.
