Battishill was a com­pos­er, key­board play­er, and con­cert te­nor.

He be­gan his ca­reer as writ­ing the­a­ter mu­sic, but lat­er de­vot­ed him­self to work­ing as an or­gan­ist and com­pos­er for the Church of Eng­land.
