Biography

John was the son of Gen­er­al Will­iam Otho Beall and Nan­cy Farm­er Chand­ler, hus­band of Ma­ry Jane Mer­rell (mar­ried October 5, 1862, Car­roll­ton, Georg­ia), and un­cle of Ben­ja­min B. Beall.

During the Am­eri­can civ­il war, he served in Co­lo­nel Boyd’s Re­gi­ment, 19th Georg­ia Vo­lun­teer In­fan­try, and rose to the rank of lieu­ten­ant co­lo­nel.

After the war, was an au­thor and news­pa­per ed­it­or.
