Becker at­tend­ed Lords­town Acad­e­my; grad­uated from Ca­pi­tal Un­i­ver­si­ty, Co­lum­bus, Ohio, in 1864; and fin­ished his the­o­lo­gi­cal stu­dies at Ca­pi­tal Un­i­ver­si­ty in 1866. He was or­dained by the Joint Sy­nod of Ohio in June, 1866, and pas­tored at St. Par­is, Ohio (1866-67); Thorn­ville, Ohio (1867-77); and St. Mark’s, Del­a­ware, Ohio (1877-84). He ed­it­ed the Lu­ther­an Child’s Pa­per for near­ly 10 years, con­trib­ut­ed ar­ti­cles to the Lu­ther­an Stand­ard, and wrote ma­ny po­ems and hymns.
