Biography

Henry was the son of Hen­ry Whit­comb Be­ne­dict and Anne Pierce.

He mar­ried twice: to Ma­ria Oli­via Jor­dan (1883) and Lau­ra G. Ford (1908).

Benedict stu­died music and pi­ano at the Roy­al Con­ser­va­to­ry in Leip­zig, Ger­ma­ny, and played the pi­ano and or­gan at nu­mer­ous lo­cations in New York Ci­ty.

He served as third or­gan­ist of the Old First Re­formed Church, Brook­lyn, New York (1895–1903), and di­rect­ed the Pros­pect Heights Cho­ral So­cie­ty.
