Biography

Mary was the daugh­ter of John Man­ning of Not­ting­ham, and wife of Ar­thur Black (mar­ried 1879).

Before mar­riage, she wrote a num­ber of hymns un­der the name of May Man­ning for the an­ni­ver­sa­ries of a vil­lage school in which she was in­ter­est­ed.
