Died: Sep­tem­ber 16, 1672, North An­do­ver, Mas­sa­chu­setts.

Buried: There is a me­mo­ri­al mark­er to Brad­street in the Old North Par­ish Bu­ry­ing Ground, North An­do­ver, Mas­sa­chu­setts, but her ac­tu­al grave lo­ca­tion is un­cer­tain.

Biography

Anne was the daugh­ter of Tho­mas Dud­ley (stew­ard of the Earl of Lin­coln, and se­cond gov­er­nor of the Mas­sa­chu­setts Bay Co­lo­ny) and Do­ro­thy Yorke, and wife of Si­mon Brad­street (twice gov­er­nor of the Mas­sa­chu­setts Bay Co­lo­ny).

She was the first Pu­ri­tan fi­gure in Am­er­ican li­te­ra­ture, and the first pub­lished writ­er in the Bri­tain’s Am­er­ican co­lo­nies.
