Gena was the daughter of Henry William Branscombe and Sara Elizabeth Allison, and wife of John Ferguson Tenney (married October 5, 1910, Picton, Ontario).
She is remembered as a composer, pianist and founder—and conductor for 21 years—of the Branscombe Chorale of New York.
In 1928 she came president of the Society of American Women Composers. In 1950, she became vice-president and director of the National Association of American Composers and Conductors. She was also was a member of ASCAP.
