Died: April 14, 1889, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Breed was educated at the City University of New York, Union Theological Seminary, and Princeton University (graduated 1847).
A year after being licensed to preach, he went to Montpelier Springs, Georgia, where he taught for a year to earn funds to pay his way through seminary. During that time he also served as a supply
preacher for a local Protestant Episcopal congregation.
In 1847, Breed married and moved to Steubenville, Ohio, to serve a new Presbyterian church there.
In 1856, Breed became first pastor of the West Spruce Street Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia, a post he held the rest of his life.
