Biography

A stu­dent of or­gan­ist Will­iam Hors­ley, Bur­rowes lived in Lon­don near­ly 40 years, and played the or­gan at the Church of St. James, West­min­ster.

He helped found the Phil­har­mon­ic So­ci­ety, and wrote an ov­er­ture used as the con­clud­ing item at the So­cie­ty’s con­certs. He al­so com­posed pi­ano piec­es, and his Sin­gle Chant in E was in­clud­ed in Ca­thed­ral Psalt­er Chants (1875).
