Burstall became the organist at Childwall Parish Church, Liverpool, England, in 1870, and at Wallasey Church in 1876.
He helped design the organ for Liverpool Cathedral, and became the cathedral’s first organist in 1880.
He was a Fellow of the Royal College of Organists.
