Biography

Marjorie was the daugh­ter of Pey­ton Jacob and Mag­gie Burk­ley and wife of Her­bert Cau­dill (mar­ried 1930). When she was a child, her fa­mi­ly moved to Ma­con, Georg­ia.

Marjorie’s fa­ther taught at Mer­cer Uni­ver­si­ty in Macon, and she was edu­cat­ed at Wes­ley­an Col­lege and Wes­ley­an Con­ser­va­to­ry (mas­ter’s de­gree).

After she and Her­bert mar­ried, they went to Cu­ba as mis­sion­ar­ies un­der the Home Mis­sion Board of the South­ern Bap­tist Con­ven­tion. When the Com­mu­nists un­der Fi­del Cas­tro seized pow­er in 1959, they im­pris­oned Her­bert and their son-in-law Da­vid Fite, along with do­zens of oth­er Cu­ban Bap­tist min­is­ters.

In 1969, Her­bert and Da­vid were re­leased, and the Cau­dills went to Am­eri­ca, where they were wel­comed in At­lan­ta, Geor­gia. Mar­jo­rie lived in De­ca­tur, Georg­ia, 1969–2000, and was ac­tive in the Cha­pel Heights Bap­tist Church and the Pri­mera Igle­sia Bau­tis­ta.

In 2000, Mar­jo­rie moved to Hon­du­ras to live with her son, Her­bert Jr.
