William was the son of Thomas Spencer Chambers and Nancy Ann Roe, and husband of Mary Alice Spence (married November 6, 1907, Brownwood, Texas.
He moved with his parents to Brown County, Texas, in 1893.
He attended the public schools of Alabama, and several high schools in Texas, but received most of his education from an elder brother, W. H. Chambers.
He studied music under Rufus Cornelius.
A farmer and rancher, he taught school for 28 years, and was a Texas state representative for Brown and Coleman Counties for 18 years.
