Cobb earned a music diploma from the Western Normal and College of Music in Dallas, Texas, and taught singing schools across Texas and neighboring states. He was known for the Cobb Quartet,
made up of his four daughters.
Cobb was editing hymnals for the Quartet Music Company of Fort Worth, Texas, by the 1890s. In 1935, George H. P. Showalter recruited him to work for the Firm Foundation, a monthly Churches of Christ periodical published in Houston, Texas.
