Biography

William was the son of Si­las Prit­ton Coe and So­phro­nia Wood­ward.

He was edu­cat­ed at Ma­ri­et­ta Col­lege, Ohio (1883), and Mc­Cor­mick Theo­lo­gic­al Se­mi­na­ry, Chi­ca­go, Il­li­nois.

Ordained by the Pres­by­te­ry of Bloom­ing­ton in 1889, he served in We­no­na, Il­li­nois (1889–92); Se­att­le, Wash­ing­ton (1892–93); Co­ry, Penn­syl­van­ia (1893–1900); and as as­sist­ant pas­tor at the Ma­di­son Square Pres­by­ter­ian Church, New York Ci­ty (1900–05).

He ed­it­ed the Bi­ble Re­cord (1905–06) and the North­field Press, North­field, Mas­sa­chu­setts (1909).
