Coulter’s song Swell the Glad, the Joy­ful Chor­us was co­py­right­ed in 1897, and pub­lished in Dan­ville, Penn­syl­van­ia, in 1898.

We spe­cu­late he may be James Ma­di­son Coult­er (1828–1920), who taught in pub­lic schools, al­so taught vo­cal and in­stru­ment­al mu­sic, and is buried in Grove Ci­ty, Penn­syl­van­ia.
