Biography

Menzies was the young­est of 15 child­ren born to John Cum­mings and Eliz­abeth Stu­pard, and hus­band of Lou­isa Payne Al­lis­on.

He emi­grated to Am­eri­ca in 1869, and settled in Georg­ia, first at Au­gus­ta, and lat­er at Bain­bridge.

In 1874, he moved to Bre­mond, Tex­as, where he was a pho­to­graph­er for sev­er­al years.

After that he founded a week­ly news­pa­per, the De­mo­crat, in Cor­si­ca­na, Tex­as, and or­gan­ized the first lodge of Odd­fel­lows in that ci­ty, of which he became grand mas­ter.

The Dall­as Ci­ty Di­rect­ory for 1894 lists him as a mu­sic teach­er.
