Son of the Dean of Rochester, Dale was a Scholar of The Queen’s College, Oxford (BA & MusB 1866).
Ordained a deacon in 1870, and priest in 1871, he was assistant master at Westminster School (1870–86); rector of Bletchingdon (1885–99) and Hampton Poyle (1892–97), and perpetual curate of Binsey (1905–10).
