Dare joined the Presbyterian church in Greenwich, Cumberland County, New Jersey, at age 23.
From 1817 until his death, he was pastor of the Union Presbyterian Church, Colerain Township. He also served as Dean of Boys at Wilmington College, Delaware.
A musician as well as a minister and educator, his original compositions can be traced back to the popular Repository of Sacred Music, Part Second, 1820.
