Died: July 14, 1877, at his home Bron-y-gan, Cemaes, Monmouth, Wales.
Buried: Old Chapel graveyard.
Richard was the son of Daniel Davies, deacon and precentor in the Old Chapel. He took his bardic name Mynyddog from Newydd Fynyddog, a hill near his home.
He conducted eisteddfod in both England and Wales, and visited America in 1876.
