Born: December 27, 1874, Montgomery County, Georgia.
Davis attended his first singing school at age 19, and at 20 began teaching. After conducting at nearly 50 schools, he attended his first session of John M. Bowman’s American Normal School of Music at Ellisville, Mississippi.
Davis later attended numerous other sessions of that school in Georgia and Tennessee, receiving a diploma at the close of the third session. He taught in a total of more than 100 singing schools, as far west as Louisiana.
As of 1904, he was living in Statesboro, Georgia.
