Born: March 18, 1944, Louisville, Kentucky.
Daw was educated at Rice University, Houston, Texas (BA 1966) and the University of Virginia (MA 1967, PhD 1970).
He served as an associate professor at the College of William and Mary, Williamsburg, Virginia (1970–78). He went on to the University of the South, Sewanee, Tennessee (MDiv 1981), and was ordained in 1982.
He then served as assistant rector at Christ and Grace Church, Petersburg, Virginia (1981–84); vicar-chaplain at St. Mark’s Chapel, Storrs, Connecticut (1984–93); and resident companion, Community of Celebration, Aliquippa, Pennsylvania (1993–96).
From 1980–82, he was a member of the Standing Commission on Church Music for the 1982 American Episcopal hymnal, and, since 1996, has been Executive Director of the Hymn Society in the United States and Canada.
