Biography

Daw was edu­cat­ed at Rice Uni­ver­si­ty, Hous­ton, Tex­as (BA 1966) and the Uni­ver­si­ty of Vir­gin­ia (MA 1967, PhD 1970).

He served as an as­so­ciate pro­fess­or at the Col­lege of Will­iam and Ma­ry, Will­iams­burg, Vir­gin­ia (1970–78). He went on to the Uni­ver­si­ty of the South, Se­wa­nee, Ten­nes­see (MDiv 1981), and was or­dained in 1982.

He then served as as­sist­ant rec­tor at Christ and Grace Church, Pe­ters­burg, Vir­gin­ia (1981–84); vicar-chap­lain at St. Mark’s Cha­pel, Storrs, Con­nec­ti­cut (1984–93); and re­si­dent com­pan­ion, Com­mu­ni­ty of Ce­le­bra­tion, Ali­quip­pa, Penn­syl­van­ia (1993–96).

From 1980–82, he was a mem­ber of the Stand­ing Com­miss­ion on Church Mu­sic for the 1982 Am­eri­can Epis­co­pal hym­nal, and, since 1996, has been Exe­cu­tive Di­rect­or of the Hymn So­ci­ety in the Unit­ed States and Ca­na­da.
