Biography

Dawson was edu­cat­ed at The Mill School, Lon­don, and at Uni­ver­si­ty Col­lege, Lon­don (BA, Class­ics, 1856).

A Congregational min­is­ter, he served in a num­ber of lo­ca­tions:

• London Mis­sion­ary So­ci­ety, Shang­hai, Chi­na (1860–61)
• De­viz­es, Wilt­shire (1863–70)
• St. Ann’s Well Road Cha­pel, Not­ting­ham (1870–81)
• Secretary, Lon­don Ci­ty Mis­sion (1881–1906)
• Cheshunt Old Stu­dents’ Un­ion (found­er)

He is said to have written 150 hymns, pub­lished in 1906.
