Biography

John was the son of James R. Driv­er and Ma­til­da C. Al­len, and hus­band of El­zire Louise Wi­ley (mar­ried 1888).

He at­tend­ed the Il­li­nois Ag­ri­cul­tur­al Col­lege and Bo­ston Uni­ver­si­ty.

He was or­dained a Me­tho­dist Epis­co­pal min­is­ter and served in Prair­ie, Il­li­nois (as of 1880), and at the Peo­ple’s Church, Chi­ca­go, Il­li­nois (1902–07).

He tra­vel­ed ex­tens­ive­ly in Eur­ope, and was a lec­tur­er, ora­tor, writ­er, and mem­ber of the Am­eri­can & As­ia­tic Ar­ch­aeo­lo­gic­al So­ci­ety.
