Biography

Porter was the son of Christopher Dyer and Betsey Porter, and husband of Esther Ann Hough (married December 2, 1838, Canterbury, Connecticut).

On November 7, 1867, he was installed as pastor of the Congregational Church in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts.

Dyer was well known as a poet and author. He is sometimes confused with his son, E. Porter Dyer (1839–1896), managing editor of the Springfield Union, Springfield, Massachusetts.
