Died: Ju­ly 20, 1835, Ho­bo­ken, New Jer­sey.

Biography

Samuel was the son of James Dy­er and Sar­ah Bar­ton, and hus­band of Re­nee No­vak.

The fa­mi­ly orig­in­al­ly lived in White Cha­pel, Hamp­shire Eng­land. Hus­tad gives Samuel’s birth­place as Well­shire (lo­ca­tion un­certain–Wilt­shire?), where James was or­dained and served as a Bap­tist min­is­ter.

In 1806, the Dy­ers moved to Co­ven­try, and in 1811, Sam­uel emi­grat­ed to Am­eri­ca.

He taught mu­sic and di­rect­ed choirs in New York Ci­ty and Phi­la­del­phia, Penn­syl­van­ia. He lat­er moved to Bal­ti­more, Ma­ry­land, and wrote, and con­duct­ed sing­ing schools in the south and east, and the New York Sac­red Mu­sic So­ci­ety.
