Biography

Samuel was the son of James Dy­er and Sar­ah Bar­ton.

The fa­mi­ly orig­in­al­ly lived in White Cha­pel, Hamp­shire. In 1782, they moved to Wells­hire, where James was or­dained and served as a Bap­tist min­is­ter.

In 1806, the Dy­ers moved to Co­ven­try, and in 1811, Sam­uel emi­grat­ed to Am­eri­ca.

He taught mu­sic and di­rect­ed choirs in New York Ci­ty and Phi­la­del­phia, Penn­syl­van­ia. He lat­er moved to Bal­ti­more, Ma­ry­land, and wrote, con­duct­ed sing­ing schools in the south and east, and con­duct­ed the New York Sac­red Mu­sic So­ci­ety.
