Biography

Stephen was the son of Samuel and Sarah Eckstein, and hus­band of Bertha Margaret Foster (mar­ried December 24, 1921).

Raised in an Or­tho­dox Jew­ish home, he at­tend­ed a rab­bi­ni­cal school in Lat­via for two years. He emi­grat­ed to Ame­ri­ca be­fore World War I.

He con­vert­ed to Chris­ti­an­ity in 1921, and had a Jew­ish mis­sion in Dal­las, Tex­as (1922–34), and spoke at church­es in Te­xas and Ok­la­ho­ma. From 1934–1975, he worked out of his home in Kan­sas Ci­ty, Mis­sou­ri. Preach­ing the Gos­pel in 20 states, he spoke at ma­ny se­mi­nars, lec­tures, and meet­ings. He was al­so an el­der of the Grand­view Church of Christ, Grand­view, Mis­sou­ri, for 10 years

Eckstein taught ma­ny class­es ex­plain­ing Old Tes­ta­ment pas­sag­es and their ap­pli­ca­tion in the New Tes­ta­ment. He spoke He­brew, Yid­dish, Ger­man, and Lat­vian, and wrote ma­ny tracts and ar­ti­cles for the Firm Foun­da­tion, and for the Gospel Advocate.
