Mary was the daughter of Joseph Edgar and Mary Little.

She attended Havergal College, the Un­i­ver­si­ty of Ontario, and the National Training School of the Young Women’s Christian Association in New York City.

From 1922–56, she ran a girls’ camp called Glen Bernard, on Lake Bernard, near Sundridge. Her works in­clude:
