Zeva was the son of James T. Edworthy and Eliza Jane Cotton, and husband of Cleo M. Edworthy.
He was educated at Washburn College, Topeka, Kansas (AB 1904), and Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois (MA 1923).
Raised a Presbyterian, he later moved to the Methodist denomination.
He served as Director of Young People’s Work and Leadership Training for the Colorado Council of Religious Education. He was later an elder in the Methodist West Virginia Conference.
In November 1925, became general secretary of the West Virginia Council of Churches and Christian Education.
