August married Lydia May West on October 4, 1899. The next day, he was ordained an Advent Christian minister in Westbrook, Maine.
He earned BA & BD degrees from his denomination’s New England School of Theology, then, by correspondence, a Bachelor of Sacred Literature from Iowa Christian College, and MA from Potomac University.
He served pastorates in Oxford, Maine (1899–1902); Dover-Foxcroft, Maine (1901–08); Whitman, Massachusetts (1908-15); and Littleton, New Hampshire (1915 until his death). In addition, he preached on Sunday afternoons in Whitefield and Easton, New Hampshire.
He spoke at camp meetings in New England and California, and for many years was president of the Advent Christian New Hampshire Conference.
