Introduction

Biography

Kenneth was the son of Pro­fess­or D. W. Fin­lay of Ab­er­deen, Scot­land.

He at­tend­ed Ro­bert Gor­don’s Col­lege in Ab­er­deen, and Mer­chis­ton Cas­tle School, Ed­in­burgh.

A mem­ber of the Roy­al In­sti­tute of Na­val Ar­chi­tects (RI­NA), Fin­lay switched to a mu­sic ca­reer in 1928.

He stu­died at the Roy­al Aca­de­my of Mus­ic, then at the Teach­ers’ Train­ing Col­lege, Jor­dan­hill, Glas­gow.

He be­came Mu­sic Mas­ter at the Ir­vine Roy­al Aca­de­my, and re­tired in 1947.

He is re­mem­bered as a con­trib­ut­or to the Trans­act­ions of the RINA, and com­pos­er of hymn tunes.
