Kenneth was the son of Professor D. W. Finlay of Aberdeen, Scotland.
He attended Robert Gordon’s College in Aberdeen, and Merchiston Castle School, Edinburgh.
A member of the Royal Institute of Naval Architects (RINA), Finlay switched to a music career in 1928.
He studied at the Royal Academy of Music, then at the Teachers’ Training College, Jordanhill, Glasgow.
He became Music Master at the Irvine Royal Academy, and retired in 1947.
He is remembered as a contributor to the Transactions of the RINA, and composer of hymn tunes.
