Born: July 8, 1818, London, England.
At age 15, Fleet left school to enter his father’s counting house. When his father died two years later, he took over the business, and from that time followed commercial pursuits.
At an early age, he became a teacher in a small Sunday school which his sister had begun in Lime Street, London.
With some fellow teachers, he founded the Church Sunday School Institute in 1843, and served as its honorary secretary for two decades. For 15 years, he also edited the Church Sunday School Quarterly.
His hymns appeared in the hymn book published by the Institute, The Church Sunday School Hymn Book, 1848, and in The Church Sunday School Quarterly (1852 & 1862).
