Born: July 8, 1818, Lon­don, Eng­land.

Biography

At age 15, Fleet left school to en­ter his fa­ther’s count­ing house. When his father died two years lat­er, he took ov­er the bu­si­ness, and from that time fol­lowed com­mer­cial pur­suits.

At an ear­ly age, he be­came a teach­er in a small Sun­day school which his sis­ter had be­gun in Lime Street, Lon­don.

With some fel­low teach­ers, he found­ed the Church Sun­day School In­sti­tute in 1843, and served as its hon­or­ary sec­re­ta­ry for two de­cades. For 15 years, he al­so ed­it­ed the Church Sun­day School Quar­ter­ly.

His hymns ap­peared in the hymn book pub­lished by the In­sti­tute, The Church Sun­day School Hymn Book, 1848, and in The Church Sun­day School Quar­ter­ly (1852 & 1862).
