Biography

Harry was the son of Frank Shel­don Fos­dick and Am­ie Wea­ver, and hus­band of Flor­ence Al­len Whit­ney.

He at­tend­ed Col­gate Uni­ver­si­ty, Un­ion Theo­lo­gic­al Se­mi­na­ry (UTS), and Co­lum­bia Uni­ver­si­ty.

Ordained in 1903, he pas­tored at the First Bap­tist Church in Mont­clair, New Jer­sey (1904–15).

At UTS, he lec­tured on Bap­tist prin­ci­ples and ho­mi­le­tics (1908–15) and was pro­fess­or of prac­ti­cal theo­lo­gy (1915–46).

He al­so found time to serve as as­so­ci­ate min­is­ter at the First Pres­by­ter­ian Church in Man­hat­tan, New York (1919–25), and pas­tor of Park Ave­nue Bap­tist Church (lat­er re­named to Ri­ver­side Church) (1929–46).

His pic­ture was on the cov­er of Time ma­ga­zine, Sep­temb­er 21, 1925.
