Franzmann was ed­u­cat­ed at North­west­ern Col­lege, Wa­ter­town, Wis­con­sin (BA 1928), and Wis­con­sin Lu­ther­an Sem­in­a­ry, Thiens­ville, Wis­con­sin. He taught at North­west­ern Col­lege (1936-46) and Con­cor­dia Sem­in­ary, St. Louis, Mis­sou­ri (1946). In 1954, he be­came chair of Con­cord­ia’s de­part­ment of ex­e­ge­ti­cal the­ol­o­gy. In 1958, he re­ceived a Doc­tor of Di­vin­i­ty de­gree from Con­cor­dia Sem­in­a­ry, Spring­field, Il­li­nois. He also did grad­u­ate work at the Un­i­ver­si­ty of Chi­ca­go, and vi­sit­ed Greece on a Dan­iel L. Shor­ey Tra­vel­ing Fel­low­ship. In Oc­to­ber 1969, he was or­dained at West­field House, Cam­bridge, Eng­land, and served as a tu­tor in the the­o­lo­gi­cal train­ing pro­gram there. Franz­mann’s works in­clude:
