Born: Circa 1556, Caravaggio, Lombardy.
Died: January 4, 1609.
A composer, Gastoldi was in the chapel of the Gonzaga family in Mantua, eventually as maestro di capella (1572–1608), then probably moved to Milan.
Most influential are his balletti, strophic vocal dance-songs with passages of nonsense syllables. These were often reprinted and much imitated, as by Claudio Monteverdi and Thomas Morley.
