Introduction

Born: No­vem­ber 3, 1930, Long Shoals (near Lin­coln­ton), North Ca­ro­li­na.

Gates was in­duct­ed in­to the South Ca­ro­li­na Gos­pel Mu­sic As­so­cia­tion Hall of Fame in 2008, and the South­ern Gos­pel Mu­sic Hall of Fame in 2011.
