Biography

Samuel was the son of Ar­chi­bald Gei­kie, fa­ther of geo­lo­gists James Mur­doch Gei­kie and Sir Ar­chi­bald Gei­kie, and hus­band of Isa­bel­la Thom.

He is re­mem­bered as a ten­or, com­pos­er, and con­duct­or. He served as choir­mas­ter at St. Au­gus­tine Church in Ed­in­burgh, and was mu­sic cri­tic at The Scots­man for 28 years.

Works

He com­posed sev­er­al well known Scott­ish me­lo­dies, such as My Hea­ther Hills.
