Biography

Anton was the son of Müll­er Gers­bach, who was lat­er Raths­herr and Bür­ger­meis­ter of Säck­ing­en.

He de­vel­oped his mu­sic­al tal­ents ear­ly: By age 11, he was play­ing the or­gan for the lo­cal can­tor.

He and his bro­ther lat­er moved to Zür­ich, where they lived with the Hirz­el fa­mi­ly. An­ton stu­died mu­sic, and sang in Nä­ge­li’s Sing­gesell­schaft.

In 1821, he and his bro­ther went to Nur­em­berg, where he at­tend­ed the Uni­ver­si­ty. From 1822–23 he stu­died at the Uni­ver­si­ty of Hal­le.

After Jo­seph’s death in 1830, An­ton moved to Karls­ru­he. He is re­mem­bered main­ly as a per­form­er and teach­er.
