Granddaughter of a rabbi and raised in an Orthodox Jewish family, Green grew up in Venice, Ca­li­for­nia. After college, she worked in the garment industry in Los An­ge­les, and for a while was involved in the drug culture and investigating eastern religions.

She married musician Keith Green, and in 1975, they came to Christ. They became involved in ministry work, and after Keith’s death in 1982, her horizons eventually expanded to ministries of national and international scope.
