Biography

Grotenhuis was the hus­band of El­ea­nor Ruth Veld­man.

He was edu­cat­ed at Cal­vin Col­lege, Grand Ra­pids, Mi­chi­gan; Mi­chi­gan State Uni­ver­si­ty, Lan­sing; and Ohio State Uni­ver­si­ty, Co­lum­bus.

He was a pro­fess­or of mu­sic and di­rect­or of cho­ral mu­sic at Dordt Col­lege, Sioux Cen­ter, Iowa, from 1960 un­til re­tir­ing in 1994.

He di­rect­ed the Dordt choir in ma­ny re­cord­ings, in­clud­ing a num­ber of psalm ar­range­ments found in the Chris­tian Re­formed Church’s 1959 Psal­ter Hym­nal.

He al­so served on the Re­vi­sion Com­mit­tee for the 1987 edi­tion of the Psal­ter Hym­nal.

He is re­mem­bered as the com­pos­er, ar­ran­ger, and har­mo­niz­er of nu­mer­ous hymn tunes.
