William was the son of Benjamin and Caroline Carrie
Grum, and husband of Lena Purdy.
He served as pastor of the Kaighn Avenue Methodist Episcopal Church, Camden; the First Methodist Episcopal Church, Gloucester City; and (by 1930), the Woodlynne Methodist Episcopal Church, Woodlynne.
In addition to his musical gifts, Grum was a talented artist. His large painting of The Old Rugged Cross was presented posthumously to the Bible class at the Kemble Methodist Episcopal Church in Woodbury, New Jersey, in 1932.
