Dorothy was the daughter of Frederick Blomfield, rector at St. Andrew’s Undershaft in London, and wife of Gerald Gurney, a some time actor (married 1897).
Her husband was originally an Anglican priest, but they both joined the Roman Catholic church in 1919.
Dorothy is perhaps best known for this verse, seen on many garden signs:
The kiss of the sun for pardon,
The song of the birds for mirth,
One is nearer God’s heart in a garden
Than anywhere else on earth.
