Biography

William was the son of Hardin Hacker (1831–ca. 1910, civil war veteran, 38th North Carolina Infantry) and Mary Ann Gillion (ca. 1835–ca. 1900), and husband of Lucinda Jane Cockerham (1875–1961).

The 1910 Federal Census lists Hacker as a 33-year-old farmer in the Mount Airy township of Surry County, North Carolina. This date is two years before publication of his song He Is Coming After Me.
